Our Metal Casting Capabilities

Metal casting is a manufacturing process whereby molten metal is poured into a custom mold and allowed to harden to form a part/prototype. The metal part/prototype can be finished through additional machining processes to get the desired tolerances and finishes.
This manufacturing process offers unique advantages that include:

  • Excellent production for detailed part designs: Metal casting is super efficient for producing a wide variety of complex shapes and designs from metal. This makes it an ideal process for creating parts/prototypes with intricate details and complex curves.
  • Finished parts are lighter than parts forged from other machining processes: Metal casting produces finished parts lighter than those produced from alternative machining processes. This makes it practical for most projects requiring light parts for testing.
  • Finished parts require little to no secondary machining: Metal cast parts do not require much secondary finishing as they produce near-net shapes. And for those that require additional finishing, we offer those services as well!
  • Short lead times: Metal casting is a fast manufacturing process that will enable you to get your part or prototype in the shortest duration.

Sand Metal Casting Experts

At Cast Technologies, we are committed to meeting all your product development needs, and to do this, we provide you with a full range of sand metal casting solutions. Sand casting dates back to 1000 BC and is one of the oldest metal casting techniques. In this process, we use expandable molds to create metal parts in a process that involves the following steps:

  • Interpreting your design and using it to create a pattern from sand-casting materials.
  • Making a sand mold from the pattern by placing it in a gating system.
  • Removing the pattern after the sand tightly holds up. Two halves are often created that are then joined together, leaving behind a mold cavity similar to the desired pattern.
  • Molten metal is then poured into the mold cavity and left to cool.
  • After the poured molten metal cools, the cast is removed, and any required post-casting processes can be applied.

We primarily use three metals as sand casting materials:

We have the capacity and expertise to pour over 30 different brass and bronze alloys. This enables us to take on your project regardless of how complex it might be!

Green Sand Casting

Green sand casting is a metal casting process that uses a specially designed mold made of sand, clay, water, and other additives. All these materials are packed around a pattern to create a mold cavity where molten metal will be poured before being broken apart to leave behind the solidified metal part.

While green sand casting is an ancient technology, it remains a viable manufacturing process for the right projects as it is:

  • An economic casting process: Green sand casting is a low-cost manufacturing process as its mold is used from readily available materials.
  • A versatile manufacturing process: Green sand casting provides great versatility as it can be used for casting a wide range of metals, including aluminum, brass, and bronze.
  • Uses easily modifiable molds: The green sand mold can be easily modified, making it a great option for creating different parts, regardless of complexity.
  • Produces parts with good surface finishes: Green sand casting produces parts with a good surface finish, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.
  • Environmentally friendly: Green sand casting uses recyclable materials, making it an environmentally friendly manufacturing process.

No-Bake and Air Set Casting

For no-bake and air-set casting, we use chemically bonded sand molds. In no-bake casting, we use sand mixed with a resin and catalyst, while in air set casting, we use a binder that hardens the sand when exposed to air. Once these molds have been created, they are used to cast molten metal to create the desired part.

    • Our no-bake and air-set casting offers these advantages:

      • Higher quality finished parts:: No-bake and air set casting produces molds with a high degree of accuracy, creating better quality parts with smooth surface finish.
      • A versatile manufacturing process: These processes can be used for casting a wide range of metals, including aluminum, brass, and bronze.
      • Great for mass production: Molds for no-bake and air-set casting can easily be reproduced, making this casting process and excellent choice for mass production.
